HMS Indefatigable 1794 by Mowzer - Vanguard Models - 1:64
One thing you might want to try on smaller parts with tiny holes like these smaller blocks is a water based resin. Even the Elegoo stuff. The water or aqua resins have gotten a lot better. The benefit to these is how thin they are compared to regular IPA based resins. They are much thinner and the holes dont clog even when they are very tiny. I have tried this on my 1.5 mm blocks and its really quite good. The finish is not as easy to create or the color but becuase these blocks are so tiny that isnt a huge concern at all. I am about to post and update with my tests for 1.5MM blocks using the thinner resin. Chuck

Basically its the Elegoo resin…its not very good in my opinion. Yes the other brands are more expensive but they color easier. Also set your exposure time to the lower end of what is rec for that resin. In addition…layer height. For my blocks I use .04 because going lower will clog your holes easier. I just successfully printed my first block test of 1.5 mm blocks. Lots of swearing while testing but I now have it dialed in.

Hudson River Sloop Amelia by Chuck - 1840's - 1/4" scale - POB
Thanks Guys.... LOL, I just changed the type-face for the guys who will build this after me. Its too late to change it on mine. The last thing I wanted to do on the stern was add the carving. There will still be other details to add but for now this is the last bit to place on the model. It was weathered to match the wood color I am using in the natural areas. After I added it to the model I added some lights on darks in hopefully a very subtly manner to accentuate the carving. But it should be subtle in my opinion. I will probably leave this color configuration at the stern but you can imagine if the field behind the eagle carving was black or dark green. Its just a personal decision depending on what you like more.

Working on the stern which is in multiple layers. Lots of Painting before they are glued on to keep things clean and neat. Then to paint the other side. Lots of painting and thin molding on this model. It is finicky to paint such thin lines and to not let the molding get wavy. Taking photos helps as it makes the wavy molding easier to spot and then fix and then do the paint touch-up. Still a lot of touch-up to do but that will no doubt be until the entire model is completed. I still have to add the carving on the stern... I may paint the center natural area of the stern black. I am not sure yet. There are a lot of contemporary paintings that show it a lighter color like this. But there are also many that show it just black. I wont rush that decision and just live with it for a bit before deciding.

Its just that folks are recreating their logs and posting multiple times in a short period. Once that log recreation subsides it will all be back to normal. Chuck

Thank you so much for saying…that feedback does help me immensely. Now to repeat this process on the other side. And then its onto the the stern although I may do that in reverse order.

Thank You....The yellow stripe is just unpainted AYC. But I did tone it down a bit with some weathering powders. It was just too bright. I added the final molding strip today and touched up the paintwork. I am not sure if I will leave this very thin 1/32" wide x 1/32" thick molding natural or just paint it black. I will wait till I have more work done on the model before I decide. These Sloops were painted gaudy colors but its just not my nature to do so so its a struggle. I do like it .....today....but maybe not so much tomorrow. Chuck

Trying out some paint possibilities...I still have plenty of touch up to do... I will just live with this for a while to see how I feel in a week. I am headed away until next saturday. I still have to add one additional molding strip above the scuppers. I dont want it to look too pristine and new. Just a bit of texture to make it more painterly.
