This is my build log for HMS Winchelsea of 1764.  This is not a recreation from before the crash; it is my initial attempt at a build log as well as a model of this type.  For most of my life I have modeled plastic kits and scratch built modern warships in plastic and wood.  At the urging of my friends from the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society and from JJ at Portland Scale Ship Co, I have taken the plunge to post my build.

I started this build in January of 2023 after my wife gave me the first 2 chapters as a Christmas present.  I have always loved the ships of this era.  I have followed Chucks build for some time and knew I had to try it.

I am currently finishing chapter 5.  I am a slow builder and work full time so it will take me a while to complete it.  I will likely catch up to where I am in the build before too long.

My intention from the start was to try and build the Winnie a little different than other builds.  I will point out some of the differences as I go along.  Some of the big differences is adding Trunnels (done) and I will be trying to rig it (yet to be done).

I have also noticed a couple things as I prepared for my build log start.  First is that I did not take that many pictures.  I was too focused on building the model with the little time I get to work on it than documenting what I was doing.  The second is that I do not take very good pictures.  I hope that will get better as time goes by:-)

My version of Winnie is Cherry.  I have planked the model in maple that I milled myself. Here is the center line bulkhead being laid up.

This is the first change that I made to my build.  Here I have created the forefoot/scarf joint where the keel meets the stem.

Hi Sean. I look forward to seeing how you build your Winnie. It's nice to see how everyone adds their own personal touches. As far as photos go I'm also guilty of getting caught up in building and forget to take them. 😄

Couple pictures of the framing going up.

It looks like a really nice start of this beautiful ship. This remembers me that I have also some of the chapters in my stash.
