I was organizing my model photos the other day, and seeing other's interesting non-ship builds in this section of this site, I thought I'd post these. By the way, this is why with my Cheerful build I say I'm a modeler building a ship, rather than a ship modeler. My interests are all over the place! Haha. I gravitate towards building things in smaller scales usually. 1/72 scale for armor and aircraft, with the occasional smaller scale or larger scale build. I'm also a model railroader. I'm interested in history, so whatever my current interest is between building models usually dictates what my next project will be. Anyway, here are most of my projects over the last 15 years or so. I'm a slow builder, just enjoying the process as I go.

1/72 scale - Eduard - Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat - plastic kit

1/144 scale - Revell - F-14B Tomcat - F-14D kit bashed with styrene and resin aftermarket details

1/160 "N" scale - Shapeways - D&RGW Fowler boxcar - 3D printed shell with scratch built styrene and brass wire details

1/87 "HOn3" scale - Precision Scale - D&RGW short narrow gauge caboose - plastic kit with phosphor bronze wire details

1/87 "HOn3" scale - Rio Grande Models - D&RGW narrow gauge Flanger OU - Multimedia kit with additional kit bashing - wood, white metal, brass and copper wire, rubber, resin, styrene - Interesting fact, this kit is nearly as old as I am, released in the early 1970's

Wow these are really great especially at such small scale. Curious since you have dates on your nameplates, do you base your scenes on photographs?

Thanks! Some are based on photos, others are just subjects I like and I research where they would exist in a particular space and time. The M1A2 tank for example was based on a YouTube video I saw. This is a frame grab from the video below. I then researched and modified the kit to make it the version in the photo. The biggest challenge was building out of styrene the commander's weapons station, and the modern items you'd see stored on a tank.

Here are some photos of my N scale (1/160 scale) model railroad. It's depicts the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad set in Colorado in October 1956. The model railroad is an L shape, 12 feet x 14 feet (3.7 meters x 4.3 meters), and is about 90% complete. I started building it back in 2003 and I've only worked on it about an hour total over the last 15 years (so I haven't photographed it much either). I just hit a wall interest wise. I have a 10 year old nephew that I run the train with when my brother's family visits from out of state.

Those are some great models! And a very nice layout. I'll have to see if I can dig some pictures up of my old HO models. I don't think I have any of the layout.

I don't think I have the eyesight or manual dexterity for that kind of scale that you are doing!

When I started my Cheerful build it took a while to get used to the large size. Now that I'm used to working on a 1/48 scale ship, when I go back to building something small it takes a while to get used to. My dexterity is good, but I'm needing more magnification as I get older.
