I translated and copied a few buildlogs from the Dutch forum here by copy-pasting.

Everything worked fine, but recently the photos are no longer visible.

Does anyone know why this is happening

Its quite possible that the other forum has blocked the copying of images to our site or any site. That is a very easy and standard thing being added to a lot of forum software updates now.

Then the first pages of the Mary Rose log will be without photos.

I have this problem with another smaller log as well. It won't be that much work to add the photos here manually.

I believe it’s accurate to say when you copy photos from another forum you really aren’t pasting the photo but a link to that photo from the other site, not the actual photo. This isn’t the case for text. So it’s far better to preserve your log to post original photos on each forum.

Unfortunately, I discovered this too late.

The strange thing is that the photos only disappeared after a while.

If the photos are on the other forum, and they are your photos, you can go to that forum, click on each photo (to see the full photo, not ths thumbnail) and right click to save it to your computer. Then upload it to this forum. I suspect the other forum just doesn't want to pay bandwidth costs to host photos which are showing on another website... which is fair enough, really. It all adds up :) the process of moving them over is tedious, but possible to do.

The photos are all on my PC. And I upload them from there to this forum.

Currently, one small log has been updated with photos again (Corel yacht).

Mary Rose: two more pages to go.

Note (provisional) The Copy paste history

Dutch Modelbouwforum to MSW DDM SoS, photos disappear after a while.

From to MSW DDM SoS, they remain visible (currently already 2 months). So between these forums "copy paste" looks ok.

That’s the way to go for all forums. The same issue exists for MSW to here, and vice versa.

Going forward I recommend creating the text on your computer, copy paste it to your various forums, and uploading the photos to each forum separately. Copy paste from one forum to another has both current and potential future problems completely avoided by uploading to each from your PC.

Plus having the text and photos locally preserves it, no matter what might happen online. I wish I had started that back before the first MSW crash and I lost my detailed Pegasus log and a few others forever.
