Discussion about milling machines

Thanks Don! Was looking at the 6450 but was concerned with the speed. I wonder if I called them they might have some options like different pulleys they might be willing to entertain. Torque would be of less importance but looking for speed.

In the short term it will be for wood for ships but I also have many more project ideas. Mostly metal.
I like the idea that they are made much like their larger cousins just smaller size. R8 collets etc.

Size wise the 6450 would be a good. Not desktop size but not 60” ways either! lol
Price-That machine at $2500 is reasonable.

I said it before, but THANK YOU for re posting your build log! Not only do I have the log bookmarked, but also the specific posts on the steps I'm currently working on. I'm learning taking photos of rigging is a bit of a pain, so I appreciate that you so thoroughly documented that part of your build. Chuck's monograph is great, but as a novice at the rigging part of my own Cheerful build, the addition of having all your photos to reference better helps me understand what I need to do. So yeah, again, thanks so much for putting the effort into re posting your log. It will be instrumental in helping finish my Cheerful.

Welcome Roland to Dry Dock Modeler. Nice work on your cross section. With your model railroad work, you should have no problems building wooden ship models.

I did the first bit of rigging on my Cheerful (besides the carronades/cannons). It felt good. I'm still getting up to speed on making the seizings, etc. So these early attempts will be improved upon the more experience I get. But the results so far are pretty good for being a novice at this. I rigged the bobstay today and added the 4 blocks to the tip of the bowsprit. The bobstay is made up of .025" dark brown rope that I served a few days ago. The other portion of the bobstay is .012" tan rope run through a single and a double block and temporarily belayed around a belaying pin and cleat. I'll tension this and fasten it permanently when the rest of the rigging is done. I did notice in looking at the last photo below that the eye bolt on the right side of the photo (opposite side of the Bowsprit's shadow) is not inserted all the way, so I pulled that out trimmed the end a bit, and re glued in seated correctly.

part 11
The last bit of work on the most damaged lifeboat that was begun earlier.

I had inserted some new wood carved and painted the hull. this next picture shows the early stages in filling the damaged area with new paint.

By leaving as much of the original finish as possible I was able to complete the loops freehand, I just took a deep breath and went for it. I reasoned that if I had not been happy with the result, I would have redone it with a template.

Eventually I decided on a sharpie for the loops

A little more very thick Humbrol to fill divots in the collapsed lifeboats that sit under the four aft boats.
