HMB Endeavour by Banyan - Artesania Latina - 1:60 - as she probably looked in 1770

ANCHORS
I have made but not fitted two of the anchors (bowers). These are made from Caldercraft anchor kits that I have modified to suit. I will fit these after the rigging is complete as they are another 'sleeve & rigging catcher'.

Anchor Buoys
The stock for the anchor buoys is Huon Pine which I have turned to 9mm then shaped using a compound slide mounted on the 'Y' axis plate of my mill. Not really happy with the shape, but at this scale (1:60) it is only 15mm (core) so I can live with it - the next one should be better. I also made one of the ring ropes too large in circumference and it sits a little low.

Anyway here is the completed nun-buoy - I left the wood natural to simulate a cork core.

3D printed hulls of the French ships L'Orient (1791) and L'Ocean (1790) in 1:96 by Igor Capinos

The elegoo orange storm giga will make easy work of those hulls at 1:48… you can probably guess what the next major purchase at PSSC will be.

I'm impressed how far you've progressed in a little over a month. Usually when building so quickly there is a sacrifice in quality, but not in your case. This is a really clean build.

CATHEADS, FISH DAVITS AND BOOMKINS
To determine the correct positioning of the catheads, fish davits and boomkins, I scanned Marquardt drawing and after scaling it appropriately, I overlayed it over a scanned and scaled copy of the plan provided with the kit. By resizing these in Photoshop to ensure I was using the correct scale (1:60), I was able to determine their relative position on the forecastle as shown in the graphic. I also tried to ensure the fixings for these aligned with longitudinal and deck beams (strength).

The boomkins are made from Huon Pine that were reduced to a dowel from square stock. I tapered them with sandpaper while spinning the dowel in my lathe. I also filed in the end grooves while the dowels were set-up in the lathe. I then bent the completed dowel around a former after soaking them in boiling water and leaving them to dry under clamping pressure on the former.

The fish davits are made from 4mm square walnut stock and are fitted with 3mm brass sheaves pinned in their outboard ends after painting. I made the inboard hoops from brass strip which I blackened, and then fitted te eyebolts in the tops of the davits.

My non-ship builds over time

When I started my Cheerful build it took a while to get used to the large size. Now that I'm used to working on a 1/48 scale ship, when I go back to building something small it takes a while to get used to. My dexterity is good, but my I'm needing more magnification as I get older.

BELFRY
The belfry is scratch built from a 4mm square walnut stock with hand shaped shoulders and caps. The small bell was acquired as an after-market accessory. The pawls for the windlass brake, are fitted either side of the aft side of the belfrey post.

WINDLASS
This was an interesting exercise that resulted in acceptable (but not great) result. I have learned a lot from this activity, and I will use a harder wood for the barrel in future efforts. The windlass barrel was formed by grinding/sanding flats along the length at an angle to create the camber; next time I will use a mill cutter. I did this using a mill with an angle table attachment to create a level grinding surface at the correct degree of taper. I am also a little unhappy with the alignment of some of the pawl holes in the finished product. I punched these using the squared end of a suitably sized nail.

I recut the carrick pieces from wood rather than use the metal versions provided in the kit; however, I retained the carved heads and refitted them (too lazy to carve them myself ). The pawl notches are a small cog taken from an electric cordless drill. I have not fitted the cable cleats yet as they will be too delicate and would suffer during the rigging process. They will need to be fitted before I fit the foremast shrouds.

The Clock Tower by Kevin - Reobrix Kit 55012 - Pieces 13825

Looks like a great set. How do you find the quality of the bricks? I have built Baka sets, and find them equivalent to Lego. I am tempted by several Reobrick sets, but have never tried them. Importing these sets from Europe or China has also unfortunately become an issue here in the US.
